Casting Call: Child Actor for “The Lion King” – Open Call Audition

Position Overview: We are seeking talented children aged 9-12 to audition for the roles of Simba and Nala in the beloved musical “The Lion King.” This is a fantastic opportunity for young performers who can sing, dance, and act to be part of a major theatrical production. No prior performance experience is required.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform the last verse of “I Just Can’t Wait To Be King” at the audition.
  • Participate in singing, dancing, and acting activities during the audition process.
  • Engage with directors and casting staff in a professional manner.
  • Prepare for potential callbacks and further audition requirements.

Requirements:

  • Age: Must be between 9 to 12 years old at the time of the audition.
  • Height: Must be between 52” and 57” tall.
  • Skills: Ability to sing, dance, and act. Performers will portray the African cubs Simba and Nala.
  • Location: Must be a local hire from Toronto or surrounding areas.
  • Supervision: Must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times during the audition.

What to Prepare:

  • Candidates are required to prepare the last verse of the song “I Just Can’t Wait To Be King.” An accompanist will be provided at the venue.

Compensation Details:

  • This is a professional theatre production; thus, all roles are paid. Specific compensation details will be provided upon successful casting.

Casting Call: Actor for Leading Role in Short Film “Pink Light”

Project Description: “Pink Light” is an upcoming short film written and directed by Harrison Browne. The film explores the inner and outer conflicts of Scotty, a transgender man in college navigating the complexities of identity and sports. Producers Macaulee Cassaday and Nicolette Pearse bring this compelling narrative to life, aiming to spark conversation and broaden understanding of transgender experiences in athletics.

Character Breakdown: Scotty is a college student and a talented hockey player on a women’s team, under a scholarship. As a transgender man not yet transitioned due to anti-doping rules, Scotty balances his love for the sport with the challenges of his gender identity. He is vibrant and caring with his teammates, yet struggles with imposter syndrome and overcompensation in social settings, sometimes exhibiting toxic masculine traits. This role is the film’s lead and requires a deep emotional range to portray complex internal conflicts and personal growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the director and other actors to bring the character of Scotty to life authentically and sensitively.
  • Participate in rehearsals as scheduled to develop a strong understanding of the character and storyline.
  • Maintain a flexible schedule to accommodate shooting times throughout the production week.
  • Engage with the production team and other cast members professionally and collaboratively.

Requirements:

  • Must identify as a transgender man (this is an authenticity casting to accurately represent the character’s experience).
  • Age 18 to 23, Caucasian.
  • Strong acting skills with the ability to portray a wide range of emotions and complex psychological states.
  • Previous acting experience in film, television, or theatre is preferred.
  • Must be local to Toronto or able to stay in Toronto for the duration of the shoot (travel expenses not covered).
  • Must be available for the entire shoot period from May 20th to May 27th, 2024.

Compensation: This role is compensated under ACTRA LBG Tier 4 standards. Specific payment details will be disclosed upon successful casting and contract signing.

Casting Call: BIPOC TV & Film’s “Rising Voices” Table Reads

Job Detail: We are excited to announce an open casting call for BIPOC TV & Film’s upcoming project, “Rising Voices,” featuring four different table reads. This virtual event will take place on Zoom, providing talented performers an excellent platform to showcase their skills in a collaborative and supportive environment.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Participate in a virtual table read, accurately delivering lines and contributing to character development discussions.
  • Collaborate with directors, writers, and other actors to bring script pages to life in a dynamic and engaging manner.
  • Provide feedback and suggestions to improve script delivery and effectiveness.
  • Maintain professionalism throughout rehearsals and live readings.

Requirements:

  • Must identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color).
  • Open to ACTRA/APP Union performers only.
  • Reliable internet connection and suitable device for Zoom.
  • Ability to read and interpret scripts effectively.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and ability to perform in a virtual setting.
  • Prior acting experience in theater, film, or television is preferred.

Compensation: Each selected performer will receive an honorarium of $137.50 for approximately one hour of participation.
