Chill up our Spines: Alien: Romulus

Hold onto your popcorn folks! If we look to what the cast of the upcoming “Alien: Romulus” has to say, we’re in for a scare-fest on August 16. Isabela Merced of Madame Web fame predicts that some scenes from the film might just scar viewers for life!

Magazine Total Film got a first-hand scoop from Merced. Bonafide gore fans, rejoice! Along with a few startling images from the film showcased in the magazine, this news certainly adds to the intrigue.

Co-star Opinion

More backing comes from David Jonsson from the series “Industry.” He’s helped to nudge up the suspense meter hinting that a kid-friendly 12A rating is totally off the charts. He confidently expresses, “If we’re trying to scare people, then really scare them!” Well, we heard you, David.

Another cast member, Cailee Spaeny of Priscilla fame, adds that director Fede’s inherent style is all about “doing something strange and twisted.” So, folks, brace yourselves for an edge-of-the-seat experience!

A Dream Turned Reality

Circling back to the inception of this project, it was initially director Fede Álvarez who proposed the idea to Ridley Scott. Thankfully, it intrigued Scott enough to give him a ring in late 2021 to ask if he still wanted to drive an Alien movie. Evidently, Álvarez said yes!

Steve Asbell, division president of 20th Century Studios, shared his faith in the project as he recognized the strength of Fede’s story pitch. He also drew attention to the fact that Alien: Romulus will debut a group of fresh characters.

Franchise Continuity

Alien: Romulus story, conceived by Álvarez and Rodo Sayagues, stands alone, but does not reject the parent Alien series. Instead, it cleverly weaves into the existing franchise timeline, slotting itself between events of Alien and Aliens. The official logline says it all: a group of young space colonizers face a horrifying life form while scavenging the depths of an abandoned space station. Doesn’t that sound like nightmare fuel?

What’s in Store?

More casting news reveal Archie Renaux (Shadow and Bone), Spike Fearn (The Batman), and Aileen Wu (Away from Home) as part of the ensemble. The audience has been warned to brace themselves for a particularly “disgusting” scene by Merced majority may struggle to witness. Talking of graphic and gruesome, it seems the R rating for bloody violent content and language is well justified.

The movie is a teamup between Momentum and 20th Century Studios, with Ridley Scott producing through his Scott Free banner.

As the launch draws nearer, the anticipation is palpable. The new images too, have done their bit to fire up the excitement. Soon we will find out if Alien: Romulus lives up to its hefty expectations. We would love to hear what you think about the upcoming release. Do share your thoughts below.
