13 Reasons Why, Netflix’s hit TV series based on the bestselling 2007 young adult book by Jay Asher, has been renewed for a second season to premiere in 2018. The second season will pick up in the aftermath of Hannah Baker’s death and the start of the characters’ complicated journeys toward healing and recovery.
13 Reasons Why was executive produced by Selena Gomez and was a breakout hit TV series. It was praised by critics and garnered a lot of attention on social media. According to Deadline, Pulitzer Prize winner Brian Yorkey will become the show’s showrunner after the first season’s executive producer, Diana Son, stepped down.
The first season of 13 Reasons Why centers around Clay Jensen as he returns home from school to find a mysterious box with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers tapes recorded by Hannah Baker, his classmate, and crush, who tragically committed suicide a few weeks earlier. In the tapes, Hannah explains what led her to commit suicide citing thirteen different reasons as to why she decided to take her life.
