Georgia's film industry is booming with over 30 TV shows and movies filming at one time, there are more opportunities for local actors. But, if you're a Southern aspiring actor. You may need to get a voice coach. At least, according to one casting director.
E Marcelle Casting took to Facebook to share some free acting advice to aspiring actors. E Marcelle Casting explains that “if you want to be a serious actor and versatile and that's your goal, and you have a Southern accent, try and find a way to take some classes to see if you can learn to talk without it.”
This is just a suggestion but if you want to be a serious actor and versatile and that's your goal, and you have a Southern accent, try and find a way to take some classes to see if you can learn to talk without it – because if not, you're limiting yourself to certain projects where a southern accent would not work for the role you're auditioning for.
Even if it's just a slight affectation – learn the words that you say that tend to come out more regional and learn how to fix it.
This is not the first time a casting director called out Southern actors for the acting talent. The casting director behind Magic Mike XXL said Southern actors need “acting classes”.
