Background Extra Reveals What It’s Like on Set of ‘The Walking Dead’

Date:

Here’s what it’s like to work on set of The Walking Dead.

The Walking Dead is one of the most popular shows on television. It is also one of the hardest and secretive shows in the film industry. In fact, casting directors use code names and secret casting notices to hide the plot, filming location, and other details about the show.

But, one background extra decided to break all of the rules and reveal what it is like to work on set of The Walking Dead. Over on Reddit, user BabyFacedSavior shared what it was like to work on set of The Walking Dead.

Walking dead saviors

He explained that when it comes to getting weapons for scenes on The Walking Dead, it can be really competitive. BabyFacedSavior explained he was stuck with a hammer while the rest of the background extras were able to pick up assault rifles.

Thanks! I got it cause I was the last one to the props table and all the guns were taken at that point! In future episodes I’m carrying guns though!

BabyFacedSavior also explained how he got cast for The Walking Dead.

“It was my first time on this set too. I answered a rush casting call because they didn’t have enough saviors for the day and had to be down in senoia ASAP. I had 0 time to prepare, I was clean shaven and had a fresh haircut. It definitely made me stand out though, so I can’t complain. In my other episodes this season I have a bit of facial hair and my hair looks more shaggy!”

He also explained that working on The Walking Dead is like working with a large extended family filled with teasing, nicknames, and pranks.

Nicotero refers to me as “Discount Daryl” because of the biker vest I wear and the fact that he doesn’t know my name. All the other savior extras were giving me shit because of my clean shaven face and lack of a gun. They were saying stuff like “aww negan doesn’t trust you with. A gun yet?” And “savior intern out on his first raid today”. Xander Berkely even asked if it was “Bring your kid to work day”. It’s all in good fun though. I’ve worked with the majority of them on other sets and on TWD It’s like a tight nit family and I’m the younger brother
