Why The Charleston Shooting Will Change the Film Industry Forever

Date:

The Charleston Shooting has hit Hollywood with big names like President Obama calling for major gun control changes.

Friends of the white gunman who shot and killed nine black people inside an historic African-American church in Charleston, South Carolina said he first talked about attacking a college campus, theĀ Washington Post and NBC News reported on Friday.

The Washington Post reported 22-year-old Christon Scriven, a neighbor of gunman Dylann Roof, said that during a recent night of drinking, Roof said he wanted to open fire on a school. At another point, Roof talked about shooting up the College of Charleston, according to the newspaper.

ā€œMy reaction at the time was, ā€˜Youā€™re just talking crazy,’ā€ Scriven told the Post. ā€œI donā€™t think heā€™s always there.ā€

Scriven also told NBC News that Roof may have changed his plans after deciding the college campus a harder target to access.

ā€œHe just said on Wednesday, everything was going to happen. He said they had seven days,ā€ Scriven said to NBC News. ā€œI just ran through my head that he did it [ā€¦] Like, he really went and did what he said he was going to do.ā€

Roof has been charged with nine counts of murder and a weapons offense.

According to the NYPost, Pres. Barack Obama attended an event withĀ Matthew Perry, Conan Oā€™Brien, Kiefer Sutherland, ā€œGame of Thronesā€ director David Nutter, Ken Solomon and UTA managing director Jay Sures. At the event Obama pressed the gun control issue.

Spies told Page Six that Obama ā€œspoke about the need for gun controlā€ at the small fund-raising reception for the Democratic National Committee, where guests paid $16,700 a head.

ā€œHe did a five-minute intro about what he hopes to achieve during the remainder of his presidency, then took questions,ā€ a source said. ā€œHe wants to start the process toward gun control.ā€
