New study suggests that movies with Melissa McCarthy don’t sell very many tickets internationally.
A new study suggests that whenever Melissa McCarthy stars in a movie, people are less likely to go see it. Which is extremely bad news for the producers of the new Ghostbusters 3 movie.
Recently, over on /r/Movies user staires analyzed the last few movies Melissa McCarthy starred in and the data shows that Melissa McCarthy movies don’t translate well for audiences abroad.
Essentially the data illustrates that movies do significantly better without Melissa McCarthy.
But, I wouldn’t blame her. The type of movies she typically plays in as the lead are typically trashy characters. But, if she played more roles that fit her character maybe it would translate to better internationally.
But, it begs the question, will Ghostbusters 3 producers take the risk on Melissa McCarthy?
Melissa’s next movie is Michelle Darnell which is expected to start filming in Atlanta, Georgia in the next few weeks. Michelle Darnell will be directed by Ben Falcone and feature Melissa McCarthy. McCarthy will play a titan of industry who is sent to prison after she’s caught for insider trading. When she leaves prison hoping to rebrand herself, she finds that not everyone is ready to forgive and forget.
