Project Casting first reported that Matt Damon has entered in negotiations for a sequel in September after several months of rumors and speculation. Paul Greengrass directed the second and third sequels to the original ‘Bourne’ movie, ‘The Bourne Supremacy‘ and ‘The Bourne Ultimatum‘. Jeremy Renner would later star in ‘The Bourne Legacy’ and was set to star in the 2016 sequel with Justin Lin to direct the fifth installment.

The sequel to ‘The Bourne Legacy’ with Jeremy Renner as the lead, will most likely remain in development and will be released after 2016. The Bourne producer, Frank Marshall revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that Jeremey Renner was still alive in the ‘Bourne’ universe. “That movie is moving forward,” insists Marshall. “It’s still in development. We’re working to get a script as soon as possible.” The reason why Matt Damon is returning to the ‘Bourne’ series has to do with box office sales, people just like Matt Damon more than Jeremey Renner. The Renner-led installment made only $113 million at the domestic box office, compared to $227 million for The Bourne Ultimatum five years previous and without the 3-D price bump.
