Short Description – Two twenty something’s try and keep their relationship together as their lives and careers pull them in different directions

Long Description – Sami keeps his distance. With his mother passing away a few years ago, his brother’s divorce, and the family business in dire straights, he’s under a lot of pressure to graduate law school and land a good job. His focus on trying to get his career on track (and desire to be in control of his life) keep him from getting too close to any of the many girls he’s involved with. He’s not an asshole, just upfront. “If you want something more, I’m not the guy for you”. But when he meets Yasmine she challenges his assumptions about love and life, and the two of them are forced to navigate career, social, and cultural pressures as they try to hold on to one another…and find themselves.
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

1. Katie: Caucasian female, early twenties, pretty, somewhat insecure, not overly confident. Shoots 1 days.

2. Sami (Lead – ALREADY CAST – for reference) – 23-27 years of age. South Asian male, darker skin tone than Yasmine and ethnically he looks mixed (Persian/Arab…even a touch Latino). A trimmed but distinct beard and curly hair which he usually keeps layered and short. He’s handsome but not an obvious stud…he gets girls because of his upfront and charismatic personality as much as anything to do with his looks. Rugged-Chic, he can alternate between being formal and preppy to looking like a very casual relaxed guy. He’s practical, not an asshole but because of circumstances in his life (mother passing away, brother divorced, family in financial hardship) he’s trying to keep his life simple and focus on the pressure to achieve his professional career goals, even if it means sacrificing meaningful relationships and his passion for writing in the process.

3. Nina: African Canadian female. Very pretty, sharp features, early to mid twenties, very confident. Projects self assuredness, a “voice of reason”, but compassionate. Shoots 2-3 days.

4. Tommy: Caucasian male, early to mid twenties, good looking, a “loud” personality, almost a grown up frat boy type persona. Comes off as direct, and crude but pulls it off in a “loveable asshole” kind of way. Shoots 2-3 days.

5. Callan: African Canadian male, darker skinned, strong features. He’s the “rock”, the strong quiet personality, not that he doesn’t say much but he doesn’t need to. You naturally want to be around him. He and Nina are dating, they complement each other both in looks and their calm self assured approach. The couple everyone likes and they aren’t too “coupley” Shoots 2-3 days.

6. Tania: East asian female, early to mid twenties. A close friend of Yasmine, less of a risk taker and free spirit then Yasmine, and more into the party scene. Shoots 1 day.

7. Yasmine: (Lead) – 23-27 years of age. South Asian female. She has a lighter complexion and skin tone, but not necessarily pale and her ethnicity isn’t so pronounced. Her features are more subtle. She’s objectively pretty, beautiful in fact. But she’s not a “sexual bombshell”. Her sensuality simmers more under the surface. It’s not available to everyone, only those who she allows to know that part of her. She is at her core guided by her powerful emotions and can be very impulsive, but by the same token can sit back and be very reflective and alive to the moment in front of her. Moreover she can move between these states quite quickly. Her sarcasm, her love, her sympathy, her confusion, it’s all heightened. Once she feels something is what she has to do, she does it even if she takes the long road to that decision. She has to have chemistry with the other lead Sami (already cast, see reference). They have to be compelling together when they are enjoying their relationship, when they are having banter, when they are having emotional fights, and when there is reflective quiet. Shoots 12-14 days.

8. Jessica: Caucasian female, early to mid twenties. Loud and a bit pretentious. She’s the “hostess” of the party in a key scene, loves to pretend to be fabulous, she comes from some money. Needs to be able to scream in that annoyingly overexcited kind of way. Shoots 1 day.

9. Kamil: South Asian male, mid to late twenties, clean cut, button downed, a “nice guy”. Kind of guy who wears sweaters with coloured shirts underneath. Not a stud, but decent looking. A much plainer look in contrast to Sami who is a bit more rugged, a little less typical south asian looking. Shoots 1 day.

10. Majeed: A lovable South Asian father. 50-60. Short, a belly, a moustache, bald. Jovial fun, everyone loves him. Not overbearing, his daughter Yasmine means everything to him and he’s very hesitant to impress on her too much. He’s an engineer and he’s doing okay but he could be doing much better had he stayed back home. He moved for his family and is okay with it. He works hard to provide for his family and lets his wife handle the rest. Shoots 1 day.

11. Salimah: South Asian mother. 45-55. A contrast and compliment to her husband Majeed, she’s the matron of the family. Very opinionated, very put together, very agenda oriented. She also wants what is best for her daughter but is more strong willed about seeing it through. This is her family and family is everything, the most important. She is always put together, always on. Shoots 1 day. Shoots 1 day.

12. Aftab: South Asian Male. 50-60 . Yasmine’s uncle, father of Noor. He is the more straightup, fast talking, sarcastic south asian adult type, the type that always think they are right. Taller, slimmer, full head of hair more imposing of a figure in comparison to Majeed. More direct, and he makes more money which he doesn’t flaunt but it comes across from his mannerisms, his home, etc. Shoots 1 day. Shoots 1 day.

13. Fareeda: South Asian Female. 40-50. She is similar to Salimah, they are sisters, she is younger and also put together, well dressed, and proper. The quintessential south asian housewife, but very worldly and sharp. A little more quiet due to her husband Aftab being the bigger personality of the couple. Shoots 1 day. Shoots 1 day.

14. Noor: South Asian girl. 20-23. Yasmine’s younger cousin. Innocently pretty, her face and features reveal much less emotion than Yasmine in comparison. She has reflections of her mother Fareeda’s personality, pretty, quiet, calm, shy. Shoots 1 day. Shoots 1 day.

15: Adeel: Naila’s husband. South Asian Male. 30s. Cool laid back family guy. Needs to embody a sense of “I want that” when Yasmine sees him and his wife Naila and their baby together leaving a party. Shoots 1 day. Shoots 1 day.

16. Naila: outh Asian Female. Early 30s. She’s the cooler older sister type. She flows easily between western and eastern cultural norms. She’s pretty. Got a great husband and a beautiful baby girl. She’s lived and knows what she has and what she wants, not one for putting on airs. Shoots 1 days.

17. Ayesha: South Asian Baby girl, 1 year up to 2 years. Shoots 1 day.

18. Tarek: Samil’s Older brother. South Asian Male. Mid 30s. A funny personality but beaten down by a divorce and career hardship. 18. Ayesha: South Asian Baby girl, 1 year up to 2 years. Shoots 2-3 days.

19. Tony: Late 30’s early 40’s, Caucasian/European (maybe Greek or Italian) A fast talker, no bullshit, handsome but showing signs of being a corporate lawyer for almost two decades. He feeds off the job, he is the job, he’s all about growing and succeeding more, and he likes Sami and wants to pull him along for the ride. Expensive suits but he’s got enough personality that he doesn’t come off as a robot. Shoots 1 day.

20. Clients: Early 40’s the kind of guys who just come off a bit “sleazy” not huge on personality, typical suits just kind of off putting, they like being alphas, they’ve become the “suit”. They seem like guys who haven’t had to try that hard to get to where they are in life and the personalities kind of show that. Open to all ethnic backgrounds. Shoots 1 day.

21. Anser: South Asian male, mid to late 20’s, seems like a guy just ready to settle down, not in a defeatist way, but he’s had his experience, he’s just starting his career as a doctor, good guy who has done it step by step and now has found a nice girl to build his life with…kind of guy who makes parents wish their kids were like that.

22. Waitress: Very cheery, annoyingly so, young girl early to mid twenties. Open to all ethnic backgrounds.

23. Candice: Pretty waitress with a nice smile, ethnicity open, 20-25

24. Hostess: Caucasian Female. 25-30, pretty but very business like. hostess

25. Busboy: Male 20-25, open to all ethnicity, good attitude, works quick but with a smile

26. Lead Club girl: She’s an absolute bombshell, early twenties, the kind of girl who most of the time you won’t even bother approaching in a bar or club because she is so hot that it’s intimidating….but she’s surface deep, pretty ditzy, kind of dumb when you have to talk to her, says “like” a lot, just doesn’t sound intelligent when she speaks….POLAR OPPOSITE of YASMINE. Open to all ethnic backgrounds.

27. Woman in Soap Store: Elderly Woman. Needs to be able to look disapprovingly at Sami making a lot of noise in the store, and have a funny moment with Yasmine.

28. Cab Driver: West or East African male. 40s. Could have slight accent when speaking English. 18. Ayesha: South Asian Baby girl, 1 year up to 2 years. Shoots 1 day.

29: Additional talent: Roles not fully defined. Looking for some background and extras. Females: Girls at the club. Law Students. Waitresses. Servers. Bartenders. Legal assistant. Shoppers. Older receptionists, elderly shopper, patrons at restaurants, etc. Open too 18 + and all ethnic backgrounds.

30. Additional talent: Males. Guys at club. Law students. Guys at the gym. Printing store employees. Patrons at restaurants, etc. 18+ and open to all ethnic backgrounds.
