‘Yellowstone’ prequel ‘1923,’ starring Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren, postpones production amid writer’s strike

Date:

Postponement of Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren’s “1923” Due to Writer’s Strike

The production of the highly anticipated “1923,” a prequel to the hit series “Yellowstone” starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, has been indefinitely delayed due to the ongoing national writer’s strike.

Originally scheduled to commence filming for its second season this week, the popular television series had to alter its plans due to the labor dispute led by the Writers Guild of America (WGA), as reported by NBC Montana.

Since the WGA strike, which began on May 2, shows no signs of nearing a resolution, the production team decided to postpone the production of “1923.” The series, created by Taylor Sheridan, had plans to return to Butte, Montana. Still, the Civic Center manager, Bill Melvin, received notification from the team about the significant delay caused by the writer’s strike.

To continue utilizing Butte-Silver Bow’s facilities, the production requested a 10-day extension of their contract, which allows them access to the Civic Center. While the Civic Center board already approved the extension, it still requires authorization from the City-County Commission, according to local media outlets.

Under the existing agreement between the “1923” production team and Butte-Silver Bow, using the Civic Center amounts to $75,000 per month. Depending on the duration of the WGA strike, further extensions may be requested by the production team to accommodate the delay.

Although the Civic Center remains available to the production team once the writer’s strike is resolved, it’s essential to consider that other strikes could affect the WGA negotiations’ progress.
