Warner Bros. is considering signing a deal to bring an HBO Max series based on the beloved ‘Harry Potter’ franchise to life!
Warner Bros. Discovery is currently in the final stages of crafting a deal to create an exciting new “Harry Potter” TV series!
Bloomberg first reported news of the talks, revealing that this project will be based directly on J.K. Rowling’s immensely successful book series instead of a spinoff such as “Fantastic Beasts.” Every season of the show is reportedly designed to draw from a different book, proposing an uninterrupted movie series that could extend for several years.
A representative for HBO Max declined to provide a statement when questioned.
As part of this agreement, Rowling would still be involved in the creative process of developing the series, though she wouldn’t take responsibility for creating it or overseeing production.
According to those familiar with the situation, Warner Bros. Discovery and Rowling’s camp are still in early conversations. The studio is planning to place the series on its streaming service HBO Max, soon to be combined with Discovery+ and then given a new name.
For years, Warner Bros. has desired to produce a “Harry Potter” television show – rumors about the potential series began to spread in early 2021, before Discovery’s takeover of WarnerMedia that occurred later that same year.
As Warner Bros. Discovery gears up to showcase its progress on April 12 with a presentation for investors and the general public, news of an upcoming deal is stirring. At this momentous event, attendees will be the first to witness the integration of HBO Max and Discovery+ and get a sneak peek at upcoming streaming content from our company.
Warner Bros. had already converted J.K Rowling’s “Harry Potter” literary work into a series of tremendously successful films, starting with the first one, “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” in 2001 until its final film installment was released in 2011; aptly named “Harry and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2”. The stunning success of the Eight Potter films saw a staggering $7.7 billion earned at the box office worldwide, further catapulting this beloved franchise into popular culture.
Despite the book and film series ending years ago, Harry Potter has remained a crucial part of popular culture. The overwhelming success of its various spinoffs—theme parks attractions, “Fantastic Beasts” movie sequels, Broadway’s hit show “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” and most recently, the video game sensation “Hogwarts Legacy”—are only further proof that fans will forever love these beloved characters!
