Tyler Perry’s New Movie ‘Mea Culpa’ To Film in Atlanta and Chicago

Date:

Award-winning director Tyler Perry’s upcoming movie, “Mea Culpa,” will be filmed in the beautiful city of Chicago and Atlanta.

Before we start toasting the new director in town and curating our resumes, let’s remember that it is Tyler Perry. The Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta is abuzz with the production of Mea Culpa, as its office has already opened for business.

While details about the production remain mostly unknown, we know it was created by Tyler Perry, who will take on directorial duties. Since Kelly Rowland is now producing, we should soon see her return on the camera again. Get ready for a production of epic proportions! Filming will take place March 6th-24th in two amazing cities – Atlanta and Chicago.

We anticipate the production will be filmed predominately in Atlanta, with a few days of filming in Chicago.

What seemed like a harmless love story quickly unraveled into an unpredictable vortex of chaos. The great Tyler Perry graces us with his presence here in Chicago, a place he knows all too well. In reality, he has a solid and lasting bond with Chicago due to its immense impact on his life, “where Madea got her start.”

On September 28, 1999, Perry unveiled the beloved character Madea to the world during his performance of I Can Do Bad All by Myself. Perry’s remarkable production, directed and written by him, premiered at the iconic New Regal Theatre on 79th and Stony Island. When the curtain lifted at the start of the play, and an actor didn’t show up as scheduled, Perry stepped in to fill their shoes – creating everyone’s beloved character Madea.

“I’ll never forget it, said Perry. “The audiences there were always so giving, always so loving. I played that theater many nights — for years and years before it closed down.”

The ever-outspoken and kind granny is famous for her candidness and a giant heart to match. Perry, a frequent actress of the brassy matriarch role in over twelve movies, noted how her character has changed and grown throughout her career. “I do try to stay true to what it was originally because people love her for that — and how she will say such funny, outlandish things,” he said. “But I also want her today to have a little more wisdom in what she shares.”

As soon as we have additional information about the filming of Mea Culpa, we will update this story for you.
