In a recent interview with Variety, Ryan Coogler, the director of the film Black Panther confirmed he plans to develop multiple series set in Wakanda. His production company, Proximity Media, will helm these projects. Producer Nate Moore says there is a lot of opportunity to build off the world they created in the film and expand upon it.

The question of a third Black Panther film comes up after the premiere of the second film. While it is not surprising that the second movie ties up many loose ends, Coogler was asked if he would want to direct a potential third Black Panther movie. The director said, “I can tell you definitively I have no idea what I’m doing next as a writer and director.” Marvel chief Kevin Feige chimed in and said that he has had “conversations” with Coogler regarding a third film and that there were “ideas pitched back and forth.” When it comes to considering a third film, Feige said,

“I go back to what I said when we decided to make Wakanda Forever after losing Chad. This mythology and this ensemble and these characters deserve to continue and will continue after all of us are gone, I hope, and will continue forever in movies the way it has in comics for 50-plus years.”

He also adds that working without Coogler “wouldn’t be the preference.” Coogler, at the moment, is focusing on the present, gearing up for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, “I love making movies, but to quote a character in our movie, I gave this everything. This movie got everything I have. I’m at that place where I think I’ve got this press tour in me, and then I’ve got to sit down and reflect. Probably cry a lot because I’ve been holding that back. And then from there, figure out whatever’s next.”
