The upcoming Warner Bros. remake of The Wizard of Oz will be written and directed by Kenya Barris.

Although we do not yet know many details about the film, Deadline has reported that it will be “a modern reimagining of the iconic musical.” The black-ish creator’s Khalabo Ink Society is producing while Sheila Walcott is overseeing Warner Bros. We also do not yet know who will comprise the cast.

Barris is currently in production on his feature directorial debut, You People, which was co-written by Jonah Hill and starred Eddie Murphy. The director is also preparing to premiere the Entergalactic Kid Cudi-created Netflix series in September.

Kenya Barris is a writer, producer, and director best known for creating the ABC sitcom black-ish. He has also worked on other television shows such as The Game, Girlfriends, and America’s Next Top Model. Barris will be writing and directing the upcoming Warner Bros. remake of The Wizard of Oz.
