Jeymes Samuel Unveils First Official Trailer for Biblical Epic ‘The Book of Clarence’
“The Book of Clarence,” the biblical masterpiece penned and helmed by Jeymes Samuel, the creative force behind “The Harder They Fall,” is poised to dazzle audiences with its stellar cast. Headlined by LaKeith Stanfield, a standout in Samuel’s directorial debut and backed by the producing prowess of Jay-Z, this cinematic saga reimagines a timeless biblical narrative through the lens of an ordinary individual.
Speaking to Vanity Fair, Samuel shared his vision, stating, “I’ve always yearned to delve into the Bible’s tales but from the perspective of the person who sold Jesus his sandals or the proprietor of the local hair salon.” The plot unfolds around Clarence, a man of Jerusalem who evolves into a messianic figure. While initially enticed by Jesus, Clarence is far from a devout believer, embracing his messianic role primarily for personal gain. However, as his journey unfolds, he undergoes a profound transformation in his faith.
“I’m Clarence, a man with my share of flaws,” declares Stanfield, who portrays the titular character in the opening moments of the two-minute trailer. “I played the hand I was dealt.” Stellar talents like Omar Sy, RJ Cyler, Benedict Cumberbatch, James McAvoy, Anna Diop, David Oyelowo, Alfre Woodard, and Teyana Taylor join Stanfield in this cinematic odyssey.
Save the date! “The Book of Clarence” is slated for theatrical release on January 12, 2024. Be sure to catch the mesmerizing trailer above.
