HBO’s ‘Succession’ Creator Confirms the Fate of Kendall Roy’s Name in Logan’s Will
In a recent revelation, ‘Succession’ creator Jesse Armstrong has clarified whether Kendall Roy’s name was underlined or crossed out in a pivotal scene from the show’s fourth season—warning: spoilers ahead for those yet to complete the series.
During a recent appearance at a Financial Times event in London, Armstrong settled the debate surrounding season four’s fourth episode. This episode saw the Roy family and Waystar Royco’s other top figures stumble upon a version of Logan Roy’s final will, designating Kendall as Logan’s successor. However, Kendall’s name was also marked with a line drawn from the bottom to the middle, leaving viewers wondering whether it was an underline or a cancellation.
Armstrong confirmed that Kendall’s name was underlined. This signifies Logan’s intention for his second eldest son to step into the CEO role at Waystar Royco. “If you were crossing something out, you wouldn’t start underneath, would you?” Armstrong rhetorically asked the audience. Journalist Cassam Looch reported that Armstrong was the one who physically drew the line on paper.
Regrettably, viewers who watched the series finale discovered that no member of the Roy family ascended to the position of CEO. Instead, the role ultimately fell to Tom Wambsgans, the estranged spouse of Logan’s only daughter, Shiv Roy.
