Netflix and Nickelodeon confirmed a multi-year-deal worth $200 million for a ton of original animations.
According to reports, a new spin-off centered around Squidward, SpongeBob's neighbor, and will be one of the projects as part of the $200 million deal.
Squidward, voiced by Rodger Bumpass, is an accomplished musician. In the show, he's most often seen by SpongeBob getting frustrated with his co-worker and neighbor. The spin-off has been called a “music-based project,” but no further details have been released. It is still unclear whether or not the animation will be in a series or if it will be a movie. Netflix's deal with Nickelodeon was likely motivated by heightened competition with Disney+, the streaming platform has not reached over 10 million subscribers.
