Critics are praising Joaquin Phoenix’s movie adaptation of “Joker”.
Several months ago, Project Casting shared casting calls for the new “Joker” movie. Now, at the Venice Film Festival, the original film noir film premiered to audiences. Director and writer Todd Phillip mentioned that the movies such as “The Man Who Laughs,” “Taxi Driver,” and “Raging Bull” are a great source of inspiration in giving the new Joker character a new style and character.
Phillip has also gone to say, “We [Joaquin Phoenix and Zazie Beetz] thought this could be an exciting approach to this genre. I’m not sure what it means for DC or Marvel … It was a hard movie for us to get made, to convince DC and the studio at first, but we thought we would keep pushing because we thought it would be special.”
The movie premieres in the next couple of weeks and the premiere already received an 88% on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics commented that Phoenix’s role could land him a Best Actor nomination at the 2020 Oscars.
