Disney has just been hit with a $10 million lawsuit over ‘Wreck It Ralph’
Wreck It Ralph is headed to the courtroom. The Walt Disney Company is currently getting sued by a man who claims that the company stole his idea for the 2012 animated movie.
In the the lawsuit, filed in a Texas federal court, Dyke Robinson claims that “Wreck-It Ralph” infringes on his copyright for his manuscript “Digiland.”
Robinson claims that he submitted his manuscript to Disney in 2012, but that it was turned down by Disney.
“Plaintiffs allege that Defendant is engaged in actual copying of Plaintiff’s work, or … alternatively, Defendants created derivative work[s] from Plaintiff’s work, thus infringing Plaintiff’s rights, including but not limited to Plaintiff’s Registered Copyright,” the lawsuit reads.
According to the lawsuit, Robinson is seeking “the maximum statutory damages of $10 million.”
Disney’s Wreck It Ralph” centers around video-game characters who leave their games at night when their arcade closes.
The movie made over $400 million with a production budget of only $164 million, according to Box Office Mojo.
