Ryan Gosling Relishes Avengers-Like Stunt Experience in ‘The Fall Guy’

Known for his versatile acting skills, Ryan Gosling shared his thrilling experience on the set of ‘The Fall Guy’. With a level of action and stunt choreography that would not seem out of place in an Avengers movie, Gosling attributed this to his eight dedicated stunt doubles who made every scene appear as real as possible.

Channeling Inner Superhero on Super-Stunt Set

Gosling reflected on the intensive action involved in the film during a recent public event, expressing gratitude to his stunt performers. “It took eight stunt performers to make one ‘Fall Guy’, there were times like should we be making a movie or robbing a bank. This is kind of the greatest bank robbing team, everyone had their own special skill, it was like The Avengers, in fact, probably a lot of them were Avengers if you look at their CVs,” Gosling shared.

Going Big in Stunt Choreography

Working hand in hand with director David Leitch and stunt coordinator Chris O’Hara made the stunts seem surreal. In an interview with Vulture, O’Hara revealed, “At that point in development, there’s really nothing that’s off-limits,–You try to go big–One of the greatest compliments we got was when the visual-effects supervisor said, ‘I don’t know why I’m here!’ A lot of the things he thought he was going to have to do he didn’t have to do.”

Breaking New Ground and Records

With the aim of incorporating as many stunts as possible, ‘The Fall Guy’ accomplished a significant milestone. It broke the Guinness World Record for the highest number of car cannon rolls in a movie, achieving eight and a half rolls on camera!

Daring Feats and Overcoming Fear

Beyond stunting through doubles, Gosling got his hands dirty with a few daring stunts himself. Overcoming his fear of heights, the actor took part in a scene where he was dropped twelve stories off a building. In a conversation with People at the SXSW premiere in Austin, Texas, Gosling revealed, “They dropped me twelve stories off of a building, and I have a fear of heights.”

An Ode to Stunt Performers and Movie Crews

Speaking to Vanity Fair, director David Leitch shed light on the intention behind displaying realism in the stunts, revealing it as an homage to the art of stunts. “Obviously in modern cinema we have the use of CGI, and we use it liberally,–But when we’re making a love letter to stunts and the blue-collar crews that make these movies come to life, we explored doing old-school high falls into airbags, and jumping a car as far as we could, and rolling a car as many times as we could.”

The film, set for a May 3rd release, has garnered a notable 95% Rotten Tomatoes rating. ‘The Fall Guy’ is shaping up to be an action-packed ride that fans can’t wait to experience.

As Gosling effortlessly navigates the world of Hollywood, making bold movies choices, his work in ‘The Fall Guy’ has undoubtedly made it onto fans’ must-see list. His statement perfectly encapsulates what’s to come: a rollercoaster ride of action fuelled by a team of highly skilled professionals. So, mark your calendars for May 3rd and gear up to see Ryan Gosling in action!
