Walton Goggins Unveils Behind-The-Scenes Secrets of His Character in Amazon’s Fallout Series

Date:

Key Takeaways:

– Walton Goggins’ character, The Ghoul’s, unique look in Amazon Prime Video’s Fallout was achieved via CGI — not practical effects.
– Goggins acknowledged the extensive makeup process needed for his character, which initially took nearly five hours.
– The popular Fallout series adaptation stars Ella Purnell and Aaron Moten alongside Goggins, with its first season already streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Project Casting takes a closer look at FandomWire’s recent interview with actor Walton Goggins on his role in Amazon Prime Video’s hit adaptation of the Fallout video game series.

CGI Surprises in Fallout Adaptation

Since its debut, Amazon Prime Video’s Fallout series has been winning rave reviews from both viewers and critics. One standout performance is Walton Goggins’, who plays the mutated gunslinger, The Ghoul, noticeable for his missing nose.

But in a surprise twist, Goggins revealed that the compelling look of his character was not achieved with practical effects. As opposed to most assumptions, CGI was instrumental in creating the realistic appearance of The Ghoul.

How The Ghoul’s Look Was Achieved

Goggins recently engaged in an enlightening interview with TVLine about his role and the associated peculiarities. The actor explained that his nose was intact while they were filming, covered with white dots to easily digitally remove it during post-production.

Goggins described his face being fitted with prosthetic pieces, arranged to form a triangle around his nose, subsequently aiding the digital effects team to render the noseless look convincingly.

The Lengthy Makeup Process for Fallout

In the same interview, Goggins gave a glimpse into the lengthy makeup process involved in bringing his character to life. He compared it to his previous role as Venus, a transgender character from the FX crime drama series, Sons of Anarchy, which itself required a four-hour makeup process.

However, turning into The Ghoul proved more time-consuming. Initially, Goggins spent a whopping five hours in the makeup chair, which was later streamlined by the diligent crew.

Not Just Walton Goggins in Fallout

The Fallout series also stars esteemed actors Ella Purnell and Aaron Moten. The show debuted on April 10, 2024, under the supervision of Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet, and comprises eight captivating episodes that are already available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Goggins’ candid revelations add to the viewers’ appreciation for the artistry and craft invested into creating memorable characters. Fallout’s successful adaptation from a video game to a respected series already capturing global audiences reinforces Prime Video’s dedication to delivering top-tier entertainment content.
