Hillbilly Elegy is an upcoming film directed by Ron Howard and based on the memoir of the same name by J. D. Vance.

From Vogue: “Hillbilly Elegy is J.D. Vance's story of his life growing up dirt poor in rural Appalachia, which became a bestseller thanks to its raw and unflinching yet compassionate portrayal of a poverty-stricken community in which addiction, violence and family disintegration were commonplace. The odds were stacked against him, but after graduating from his public high school, Vance enlisted in the Marines, then later graduated from Ohio State University, and finally Yale Law School. Now a venture capitalist, Vance's reality couldn't be further from the one he was born into. He credits a series of mentors with encouraging him to pursue his goals, most importantly his foul-mouthed, gun-toting, tough-loving grandmother known as Mamaw.”
