The movie is based on a 2003 novel written by Joyce Carol Oates, which goes by a more startling title Rape: A Love Story. The movie centers around a 30 year old single mother named Teena, who is gang raped and left for dead, the whole ordeal is witnessed by her young daughter Bethie. In the court case it’s the victim who is blamed for being “provocative” and “having it coming,” and her assailants are exonerated by their big shot defense lawyer. But a Gulf War veteran policeman named Dromoor becomes her hero, taking justice in his own hands.
