Queen Latifah to produce and star in the HBO movie, “Blue Goose Hollow”.
Queen Latifah is a hard worker. Between producing TV shows and movies, hosting her own talk show, now she is getting ready to star in the story of the legendary blues singer Bessie Smith in a HBO movie.
The movie will be directed and written by Dee Rees, the director of the Pariah. Latifah will star as Smith, and her production company Flavor Unit will produce alongside the Zanuck Company, Shelby Stone Productions, and HBO.
Production is set to begin in June in Atlanta, Georgia.
The new movie will center around Bettie Smith's life and music. Smith was one of the biggest blues singers in the 1920's and 1930's. Her nickname was ‘The Empress of The Blues'. Her career took a hit during the Great Depression, and as she was trying to make a comeback, she lost her life due to a major car accident.
