Looking for your next audition? Law & Order: True Crime is now casting lead speaking roles. Casting directors are looking two actors to play the lead roles in the new NBC TV series. The scripted series, now casting, will follow the famous real-life criminal cases similar to FX’s American Crime Story, whose highly-rated first installment focused on the O.J. Simpson trial.

- Lyle Menendez
- Erik Menendez
Joseph Lyle Menéndez (born January 10, 1968) and Erik Galen Menéndez (born November 27, 1970) are brothers who are known for their conviction in 1994, as a result of a much-publicized trial, for the shotgun murders of their wealthy parents, entertainment executive Jose Menéndez and his wife Mary “Kitty” Menéndez of Beverly Hills, California, in 1989. They were sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.

About Law & Order: True Crime: The Menendez Brothers Murders
According to Deadline, the first eight-episode installment of the NBC TV series will be Law & Order: True Crime — The Menendez Brothers Murders. The TV show will center on Lyle and Erik Menendez, who were convicted of murdering their parents and sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole in 1996. The brothers, who were 21 and 18 years old, at the time of the 1989, were tried separately but eventually convicted in a third trial after no verdicts were rendered in the first two trials because of hung juries.
Inside their Beverly HIlls mansion in the late 1980s, Jose Menendez, a movie executive, was shot in the head. Police later found Kitty Menendez with bullet holes throughout her entire body. The crime scene was so gruesome that the police thought it was a murder hit by the mafia.
Six months later, the brothers were arrested. Erik Menendez had confessed to his psychologists and those tapes of those conversations were later ruled admissible. Lyle Menendez was arrested after police believed he was attempting to flee the country.
Defense attorney Leslie Abramson represented the brothers through three different trials and claimed they had suffered a lifetime of abuse from their parents. Their father was accused of sexually abusing the brothers, while Kitty was accused of being unstable and drug addict. Jurors ultimately rejected those claims. Following the conviction, jurors argued the brothers wanted their parents’ money.
“We’ve been talking with Dick about how to create an event series coming out of the Law & Order ripped-from-the-headlines brand,” said Jennifer Salke, President of NBC Entertainment.
“This case captured the public’s attention like nothing before it as it examined taboo issues such as patricide and matricide in gruesome detail, all against a backdrop of privilege and wealth. We will re-create the cultural and societal surroundings of both the murders and trials when people were not only obsessed with the case but examining how and why these brothers committed these heinous crimes.”
