‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’ to film in Atlanta starting February 2016 but, casting directors are getting a head start and are now casting lead roles for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy sequel.

According to Comicbook.com, James Gunn revealed the location of where he plans to film the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel.

One person asked James Gunn, will he be coming back to DragonCon? That’s a popular multi-genre convention held each year in Atlanta Georgia. Gunn replied, “Maybe. I’m gonna try. Because we’re filming in Atlanta, I hope it works out for my schedule.”

Guardians of the Galaxy premiered in Hollywood last year and the film became a critical and commercial success, grossing $774.2 million worldwide and becoming the highest-grossing superhero film of 2014. The film was directed by James Gunn, who wrote the screenplay with Nicole Perlman, and features an ensemble cast including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close, and Benicio del Toro.

Writer and director James Gunn recently revealed on Periscope that production on Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is set to begin February 2016 at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta, which has quickly become the unofficial Marvel base of operations. The first ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and ‘Avengers’ movies were both filmed in London, but following Marvel’s ‘Ant-Man’ Marvel has filmed all of their movies in Atlanta. Currently, Marvel is using Pinewood Studios of Atlanta to film ‘Captain America: Civil War’ and it looks as though ”Guardians of the Galaxy 2′ will follow.

Marvel President of Production Kevin Feige recently referred to the Guardians sequel as Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 during a recent interview with Collider. Howver, it was neither confirmed nor denied that he had used the official title. Well, now it’s offical James Gunn has confirmed that yes, that is the real title – with his Facebook post on the matter reading as follows:

Yes, the official title of the sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Kevin Feige recently let the title slip while doing Ant-Man press, which I’m really happy about because God knows I’ve let more than one thing slip accidentally while chattering away on this FB page.

Also, hats off to some intrepid fans who figured out the title a couple of days after I posted the cover page. More than one person guessed “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2″ – I wanted so badly to give you props at the time, but knew I had to wait. 

For Kevin to mess up. Haha.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be directed and written by James Gunn. The movie will feature Scott Chambliss the production designer for major motion pictures including Star Trek and Tomorrowland.

Details surrounding the new Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 have not been released. But, James Gunn took to Facebook to announce that we will get more of a backstory surrounding the characters in the first franchise thriller. In addition, we will see several new characters joining the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
