12 years after the original was released, it has become one of the biggest independent films in movie history.
Now, My Big Fat Greek Wedding is being made into a feature film sequel. Nia Vardalos, who wrote the first production, has written the sequel and it will star John Corbett, her groom in the original romantic comedy. Also, expect the Portokalos family to return as well.
“Now that I'm experiencing motherhood, I'm ready to write the next chapter of my family story,” Vardalos said in a statement. “Of course a few jaded folks in the press corps will claim I ran out of money or just want to kiss John Corbett again. One of these things is true.”
My Big Fat Greek Wedding centered around a young Greek-American woman's trials and tribulations when she falls in love with a non-Greek and struggles to get her family to accept her fiance while she herself comes to terms with her heritage and cultural identity.
Filming is taking place in Toronto, Canada and producers are looking for extras to work on the upcoming feature film.
