The directing team of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller took an unusual step after the duo left the production over “creative differences.” As a result, Disney was left scrambling to look for a new director to take over. Now, according to reports, Disney has found one, a close friend of George Lucas, Ron Howard.
Disney made it official on Thursday and it should come as a surprise considering Howard has made beloved movies like Apollo 13. Howard is also a powerful Hollywood producer, being one of the creative minds behind Imagine Entertainment. Overall, that Howard chose to step in as the director of a Star Wars movie has raised some interesting questions about what is going on at Disney. That Howard was on the list for the job implies Disney had been talking to him well before this incident occurred. But, it is important to note, Howard nearly directed The Phantom Menace, and more importantly, he’s a close friend to George Lucas.
Either way, Howard has his work cut out for him. Han Solo is currently in the middle of shooting and has a release date of May 2018.
