Unveiling the heart of a multi-generational black family: “Stew” casting call in the USA.

Scripps Ranch Theatre, in collaboration with Common Ground Theatre, is embarking on an extraordinary journey with their co-produced play, “Stew.” Set against the intimate backdrop of a kitchen, this poignant production promises to delve deep into a multi-generational Black family’s dynamics as they confront internal struggles and external challenges. With themes of unity, resilience, and the complexities of familial relationships, “Stew” is poised to be a powerful exploration of the human experience.

The production team seeks passionate actors to breathe life into these compelling characters. Here are the roles awaiting talented performers:

Lil’ Mama: A vivacious Black girl in her pre-teens, she exudes dramatic flair. While previous acting experience is undoubtedly a plus, it’s not mandatory. Most important is comfort in portraying a character within the pre-teen age range and a genuine passion for storytelling.
Nelly: On the brink of adulthood at eighteen, Nelly possesses a rebellious streak that adds an intriguing layer to her character. Prior acting experience is beneficial, but an age-appropriate appearance and willingness to dive deep into the role are significant.
Lillian: A Black woman in her thirties, Lillian grapples with the challenges of motherhood and personal struggles. While prior acting experience is desired, it’s not mandatory—an ability to empathize with the character’s journey and a dedication to delivering an authentic performance counts.
Mama: A mature Black woman, Mama is proud, secretive, and commands attention whenever she’s on stage. Preferred candidates will have experience in adult roles, bringing the depth and gravitas that this character demands.

The chosen cast will be privileged to work closely with the director, fellow cast members, and the production team to craft a cohesive and compelling production. Commitment is critical, as attending all scheduled rehearsals and performances is vital to the play’s success. The team is also looking for actors open to feedback and willing to adapt their performance based on directorial guidance.

Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm
Sunday matinee at 2:00 pm
While this is a non-union production, all actors will receive a stipend for their invaluable contribution to this powerful production.
