“The Craft” reboot is coming soon and now casting lead speaking roles.
According to a casting call shared on Twitter, the casting directors are searching for a transgender Latinx actress to play one of the four leads.
Blumhouse Productions, the studio behind hit movies including “The Purge” and “Paranormal Activity” first announced the reboot in March. The upcoming feature film will be directed by Zoe Lister-Jones, who said the production was a dream come true.
The casting call was shared by GLAAD’s associate director of trans media Alex Schmider, says that the movie is looking for an actress who is “transgender, to play Latina” for the role of Lourdes, a 17-year-old “punk rocker” who “is the second member of the Clique.”
Lourdes’ “super-Catholic mother threw her out for being trans and she now lives with her 80 year old abuela, who has taught Lourdes a variety of supernatural practices.”
The original movie centered around Sarah (Robin Tunney), who finds that her telekinetic gift appeals to a group of three wannabe witches, who happen to be seeking a fourth member for their rituals. Bonnie (Neve Campbell), Rochelle (Rachel True) and Nancy (Fairuza Balk), like Sarah herself, all have troubled backgrounds, which combined with their nascent powers lead to dangerous consequences. When a minor spell causes a fellow student to lose her hair, the girls grow power-mad.
