What is The Umbrella Academy about?

The Umbrella Academy centers around a world where 43 women gave birth simultaneously on October 1, 1989 despite none of the women showing any signs of pregnancy. Seven of the children are later adopted by billionaire Sir Reginald Hargreeves and are turned into a team of superheroes called The Umbrella Academy.

Hargreeves gives the children numbers instead of names, but they are eventually all named by their robot mother Grace as, Luther, Diego, Allison, Klaus, Five, Ben and Vanya. While making six of his children fight crime, Sir Reginald Hargreeves keeps Vanya apart from her siblings, as she supposedly has no powers of her own.

The first season takes place in modern times, where Luther, who is part ape, has lived on the moon for four years. Allison becomes a famous actress, Vanya is a world class violinist, and Klaus has a crippling drug addiction. Meanwhile, Ben, who is now dead, is able to talk only with Klaus. Diego has become a vigilante. The siblings learn their father has died and reunite for his funeral. Five returns from the future, chased by time-traveling operatives, and reveals a global apocalpyse is coming soon. Meanwhile, the siblings try to uncover their secret past lives.

Season two takes place in the 1960s as the Umbrella Academy have to go back in time to save the world. Unfortunately, the siblings time travel capabilities runs into trouble with the siblings ending up different years in the 1960s Dallas. While being hunted by a group of assassins, Five must find and reunite his siblings who have now made new lives in the 1960s, to stop the apocalypse.
