Chris Hemsworth Ate Only 500 Calories a Day for ‘In The Heart of the Sea’

Date:

Chris Hemsworth dramatic weight loss transformation took him from the Hulk to a skinny pirate.

Chris Hemsworth has gone from looking like a professional bodybuilder in Thor to a runway model in the new movie ‘In The Heart of the Sea’. His body has undergone so many changes that he even admits he has trouble dealing with it.

Speaking with the Daily Telegraph, the 31-year old Australian actor said “I’m not even sure which is my real body anymore.”

Hemsworth continues, “I feel like I’ve lived like an athlete these last few years because I’ve constantly had to bulk up for Thor, then lose it all again for something like this”.

“Getting the weight off is the hardest part,” Hemsworth revealed.

In his latest movie “In The Heart of the Sea” the Australian actor was restricted to only 500 calories a day while filming the Ron Howard movie.

“We have to shoot the really skinny stuff where we drop down to 5, 6, 700 a day, a good three or four weeks and it’s going to be pretty uncomfortable, but we’ll be together in our misery,” Chris told Entertainment Tonight.

Keep in mind, the average amount of calories a man should eat per day ranges between 2,000 and 3,000 calories. Hemsworth is only eating a fraction of that amount.

“All the bad stuff pizzas, hamburgers, chocolate, ice cream…anything that is not on the menu you have an absolute obsession with,” he reveals in the interview. “I spend more time thinking about food than anything else.”

In December, Ron Howard and Academy Award winner Chris Hemsworth shared a photo on set showing his new found skinny frame. The picture was far from showing Thor’s majestic muscles. Instead, the photo showed how dedicated Hemsworth is to the role role in the new movie.

The actor revealed how he did it in an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Instead of traditional barbecues, the actor had to settle on small salads and few pieces of protein.

‘And that’s kind of it, and you go to bed hungry. And then you have a fasting period of 15 hours and then you have little meals through the day.’
