Daniel Craig: I’d Rather “Slash My Wrists” Than Play James Bond Again

Date:

Daniel Craig isn’t too happy about playing James Bond again.

With Spectre on the minds of every James Bond fan and critic until the movie’s release next month, speculation has surrounded around Daniel Craig on whether or not he will return to play James Bond again in the 25th movie in the 007 franchise.

“Now? I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists,” Craig tells Time Out London when asked about returning for another Bond movie. “Not at the moment. Not at all. That’s fine. I’m over it at the moment. We’re done. All I want to do is move on.”

In a groundbreaking interview with the actor, Craig admits that he “begged” director Sam Mendes to return after 2012’s Skyfall. In Craig’s opinion he believed that playing 007 was a “drag.” In fact he explains that, “The best acting is when you’re not concerned about the surface,” he explains, “and Bond is the opposite of that. You have to be bothered about how you’re looking.” Daniel Craig added that he hasn’t given any thought about returning to the James Bond Franchise.

“For at least a year or two, I just don’t want to think about it,” he says. “I don’t know what the next step is. I’ve no idea. Not because I’m trying to be cagey. Who the f— knows? At the moment, we’ve done it. I’m not in discussion with anybody about anything. If I did another Bond movie, it would only be for the money.”

Not that Craig is entirely split from his contractual obligations from being James Bond, however, as he points out, “All I care about is that if I stop doing these things, we’ve left it in a good place and people pick it up and make it better,” he says before later, adding that his advice to any future Bond would be to “just make sure you’re great. You’ve got to push yourself as far as you can. It’s worth it, it’s James Bond.”

To be honest, Daniel Craig is throwing mixed messages. One day he says he wants to return as James Bond, the next day he hates working on the James Bond franchise. I guess this is all just part of the promotion for the new Spectre movie.

Spectre opens in theaters in the United States on November 6th.
