‘Deadpool 3’ Production Temporarily Paused Due to SAG-AFTRA Strike.
The production of Deadpool 3 has been put on hold following the recent decision by SAG-AFTRA to proceed with strike action. Reliable sources have confirmed the temporary pause, and we have contacted Marvel for their comment.
This development comes just days after Ryan Reynolds shared an exciting sneak peek on his Instagram stories, revealing the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in Deadpool 3. The image showcased Reynolds walking alongside the iconic Wolverine character, donning a striking black and yellow suit.
Jackman’s inclusion in the Deadpool franchise marks his comeback as the adamantium-clawed mutant after portraying the character in nine films from X-Men to Logan, released between 2000 and 2017. The reveal of Wolverine’s return coincided with the news that Jennifer Garner is set to reprise her role as Elektra, a character she previously portrayed in the 2003 film Daredevil. Shawn Levy directed and produced the third installment of Deadpool, with plot details still tightly under wraps. The screenplay has been penned by Reynolds, Levy, Paul Wernick, Rhett Reese, and Zeb Wells. Joining the cast are newcomers Emma Corrin and Matthew Macfadyen. At the same time, familiar faces like Karan Soni, Leslie Uggams, Morena Baccarin, Stefan Kapicic, Rob Delaney, Brianna Hildebrand, and Shioli Kutsuna are set to return.
Levy and Reynolds also serve as producers alongside Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. Recently, the release date for the film was moved up by Disney from November 8 to May 3, 2024, as a result of several other MCU titles having their schedules altered due to the ongoing WGA strike.
Early Friday morning, SAG-AFTRA members are expected to picket during the strike. Union President Fran Drescher, along with Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, the guild’s national executive director and chief negotiator, and negotiating committee members, will join the picket lines. The first day of the guild’s strike against the film and television industry will witness Drescher and her team picketing outside Netflix’s Los Angeles offices from 9:00 AM to 9:40 AM, followed by Paramount Studios’ gates from 10:00 AM to 10:40 AM. They will then proceed to Warner Bros. in Burbank from 11:10 AM to 11:45 AM and conclude at Disney from 12:00 PM to 12:45 PM.
During the ratification of the strike yesterday, prominent celebrities attending the Oppenheimer premiere, including Emily Blunt and Matt Damon, left the screening as a display of solidarity with the striking actors.
