Disney is currently in production for a ‘Lion King’ sequel, ‘Lion Guard’
The Lion Guard is Disney’s sequel to the nearly billion dollar-grossing Lion King, feature film.
According to Deadline, production for the sequel, has started his week. The new production will be aimed at youngsters and families, and the new made-for-TV movie is expected to premiere in fall 2015, with a spin-off for early 2016 on the Disney Channel and Disney JR.
The Lion Guard centers on Kion, the second born cub of Simba and Nala. Kion takes the role as the leader of the Lion Guard, the bravest ands martest lions whose job is to preserve the Pride lands. Instead of assempling a team of young lions, Kon goes in a different direction by gathering a diverse group of firends, Bunga, a honey badger, Fuli, a confident cheetah, Behste, a hippo, and Ono, an egret.
Stories will include appearances from all of the Lion King favorites including, Mufasa, Timon, Pumbaa, Rafiki, Zazu and Kion’s older sister Kiara.
‘Lion Guard‘ and series were developed by Ford Riley from Special Agent Oso. Howy Parkins will direct the production with Christopher Willis working as the composer in the production.
Few if any entertainment brands can match The Lion King, which has grossed $987.4 million globally since its release two decades ago. The Tony Award-winning musical is the highest grossing Broadway production in history, with the North American tour and the Broadway show each surpassing $1 billion in ticket sales and global ticket sales surpassing $5 billion worldwide from 22 productions.
