Disney’s TRON 3: Vancouver Production Stop Due to Writers/Actors Strike

Date:

The production of Disney’s highly anticipated movie, TRON: Ares, has come to an unexpected standstill in Vancouver due to an ongoing strike, resulting in the unfortunate layoff of 150 dedicated crew members.

Joachim Rønning, the skilled director leading this third installment, shared a significant update through his Instagram account on Tuesday, August 15. Accompanying his message was a series of captivating behind-the-scenes images from previous film projects. Rønning commenced his post by expressing his deep admiration for the industry’s professionals’ creative prowess and exceptional talents. He then proceeded to unveil the current status of TRON 3’s production.

“Some of the most defining moments in my career have been witnessing actors breathe life into their roles before the camera – elevating the scene and the script to remarkable heights. Collaborating with such extraordinary talent has been a privilege I cherish. Nevertheless, being an actor or writer entails embracing the freelance lifestyle, which inherently brings about perpetual uncertainty. I firmly believe that seeking a more robust safety net is a reasonable aspiration,” Rønning articulated.

Expanding on his sentiments, Rønning stated, “A significant number of my dearest friends are writers. Every creative endeavor commences with the narrative. Every creation starts with you. This continuum must persist, underscoring the necessity to regulate artificial intelligence (AI). This technology’s peril to all creative minds cannot be understated.”

In a candid revelation, Rønning disclosed the unfortunate news that the filming of TRON: Ares has been abruptly halted. He emphasized the adverse impact of this pause on the entire crew, with over 150 professionals facing unemployment due to the ongoing actors’ strike in the heart of Hollywood.

“Today was originally designated as the inaugural day of principal photography for TRON: ARES, a film that explores the realms of AI and the essence of humanity. However, our plans are suspended, leaving more than 150 individuals without employment. The uncertainty surrounding the duration of this halt only amplifies the challenges we collectively face,” Rønning disclosed.

He directed his message toward the relevant parties involved. He called for swift action: “The AMPTP, SAG-AFTRA, and WGA must not depart from the negotiation table until a resolution is achieved. We operate in Hollywood, where deals are sealed over breakfast. It is perplexing that we now find ourselves in a prolonged impasse when every moment is of immense significance. This approach is deeply frustrating. Diplomacy must prevail, enabling us to resume our work under conditions that are equitable for all.”

TRON: Ares, the eagerly awaited third chapter in the science-fiction action saga, was initially announced in May.

The synopsis of TRON: Ares, as presented on Production List, reads: “Continuing the legacy of the beloved TRON: Legacy, this sequel delves further into Ares’ narrative, promising fans an unparalleled immersive experience in the Tron universe. Boasting state-of-the-art visuals, mesmerizing action sequences, and a profound exploration of Ares’ odyssey, this film is set to be a captivating addition to the iconic Tron franchise.”

Under the directorship of Rønning, the screenplay has been meticulously crafted by a talented team, including Steven Lisberger, Bonnie MacBird, and Jesse Wigutow.

Russell Allen, known for his work on The Little Mermaid (2023), assumes the role of executive producer. Leto, Emma Ludbrook, Jeffrey Silver, and Justin Springer spearhead production under the Paradox banner for Walt Disney Studios.
