Lin-Manuel Mirando Thought ‘Bruno’ Would Not Be The Biggest Hit

Date:

Lin-Manuel Miranda believes a different ‘Encanto’ song, not ‘Bruno,’ would be the biggest hit.

It’s been less than a week since Lin-Manuel Miranda’s departure from “Hamilton,” but the award-winning composer is wasting no time in getting back to work. Miranda is teaming up with singer/songwriter Justin Timberlake for an upcoming charity single called “Encanto.”

Encanto has already been a smash hit. “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” has spent five weeks in the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Its streak actually came to an end this week, though, as Glass Animals’ “Heat Waves” is now on top of the chart. Lin-Manuel Miranda (who wrote all the Encanto songs) spoke about the film and its music in a new Los Angeles Times interview, confessing that he didn’t think “Bruno” would turn out to be such a hit.

He added, “Bruno is a great piece of material. I think the variety of it is part of it; that everyone has their own favorite section — so it’ll be a karaoke jam for eternity because everyone can take the microphone at any time.”My son came home from school the other day and said, ‘Dad, we were singing it on the bus and everyone took different parts.’ I went, ‘Oh my God, did you sing along?’ He goes, ‘I was one of several Camilos’.

About Disney’s Encanto:

Disney’s Encanto tells the story of a young girl who is magically transported to a parallel world where she must help three enchanted princes break a curse that has turned them into beasts. Along the way, she discovers her own true identity and learns to embrace her unique powers.

The music for Disney’s Encanto was written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, the Tony and Grammy Award-winning composer of the smash Broadway hit Hamilton. The film’s music reflects a range of Latin styles, from salsa and merengue to cumbia and bachata.

Disney’s Encanto is a magical new film musical adventure from Walt Disney Animation Studios. Featuring an all-star cast, including Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin), Anthony Gonzalez (Coco), Benjamin Bratt (Doctor Strange), and Daveed Diggs (Hamilton), the film takes audiences on a thrilling journey to a fantastical world where beloved characters come to life in surprising and spectacular ways.
