What the Critics Are Saying: ‘Furious 7’

Date:

‘Furious 7’ is already in theaters but is it worth the $15? Here is what the critics are saying about the upcoming ‘Furious 7’ movie.

If you didn’t know, Furious 7 is the sequel to the box office smash hit ‘Fast & Furious 6’ and will be the seventh movie in the ‘Fast & Furious’ film series.

‘Furious 7’ features Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Lucas Black and Jason Statham. With the previous three movies being set between 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003) and The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006), Furious 7 is the first film of the series to take place after Tokyo Drift.

‘Furious 7’ marks the final appearance of Paul Walker, who died on November 30, 2013 with filming only half-completed. After Walker’s death, filming was delayed for script re-writes, and his brothers Caleb and Cody Walker were used as stand-ins to complete his remaining scenes. Furious 7 is set for release on April 3, 2015.

So what happens in the new ‘Furious 7’ movie?

After defeating Owen Shaw and his crew, Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel), Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) and the rest of the crew are able to return to the United States and live normal lives again as they had wanted. However, Owen’s older brother, Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham), is after Dom and his crew, seeking revenge for his brother’s death and putting the entire crew in danger once more. After learning of Han’s death, the crew sets out to find the man who killed one of their own, before he finds them first.

Overall the reviews have been extremely high for the movie. Here is what the critics are saying about ‘Furious 7’:

“Furious 7” is the fuel-injected fusion of all that is and ever has been good in “The Fast and the Furious” saga that began in 2001 with souped-up cars and a stripped-down story about a tightknit East L.A. street racing crew. – Los Angeles Times

The series will doubtless continue on with Diesel, Rodriguez, Johnson, and the rest, but in the meantime, Furious 7 comes to the most conclusive and emotionally satisfying ending since, fittingly, the very first film. – AV Club

Furious 7 offers edge-of-the-seat excitement with outlandish action sequences, inventive stunts, hilarious cartoonish moments and even some touching emotion. – USA Today

There will no doubt be better movies released in 2015, but “Furious 7” is an early favorite to win the prize for most picture. – The New York Times
