Hollywood Actresses Get Brutally Honest About Hollywood Culture

Date:

Several actresses have commented on the Hollywood culture this past week.

In a press conference for Clouds of Sils Mariaactress Chloë Grace Moretz answered questions about the celebrity lifestyle and expectations. Chloë Grace Moretz who plays an American starlet and “tabloid fixture,” in the movie said some pretty surprising comments about the celebrity expectations:

“You have to be the most realistic person, the one that makes your own toothpaste — that’s what it is now,” she said. “There’s no vaseline on the lens anymore. We want the sharpest image, to see all your pimples! We want to see that you’re a messed-up human. We want to see you cheat and lie. And it’s kind of depressing because, instead of being actors, we’re now just entities, which isn’t our job.”

Chloë Grace Moretz also commented on the entitlement fans feel they have with celebrities on social media:

“They’ll be like, You have to give me a photo. I buy a ticket to your movie. I, in a sense, own you. If I don’t buy a ticket to your movie, you’re done — so you have to take a photo with me. There’s a lot of entitlement, especially nowadays, in Hollywood, because they think they know everything about you. They think that because you have an Instagram, they can go break into your house. You let us in! I’ve seen your house on your video!

Charlize Theron, also commented on the celebrity lifestyle, but compared it to sexual assault. Charlize Theron was in the UK to promote the new movie A Million Ways To Die in the Westshe made comments when asked by Sky News if she ever Googled herself.

She said: “I don’t do that, so that’s my saving grace. When you start living in that world, and doing that, you start I guess feeling raped.” Theron continued, “Well, you know when it comes to your son and your private life. Maybe that’s just me. Some people might relish all that stuff but there are certain things in my life that I think of as very sacred and I am very protective over them.

Charlize Theron added that it is healthier to stay out of the media and press.

“I don’t always win that war but as long as I don’t have to see that stuff or read that stuff or hear that stuff then I can live with my head in a clear space, which is probably a lot healthier than living in that dark room.”

The Hollywood spotlight provides an immense amount of attention. From pimples, to life experiences, an actor’s life is now scene under a microscope. With media outlets such as TMZ, 24 hour news, and social media, celebrities are always in the headlines for mundane situations. So, much so that perhaps we forget that they are people too. At the same time, celebrities would not be celebrities without their fans. If people didn’t care about their outfits, personalities, or significant others, they probably would not have a career.

What do you think? Should celebrities be humbled by the fans they have? Or, should fans respect their privacy and leave them alone? Share with us your thoughts in the comments below!
