John Cena, Awkwafina to Star in ‘Grand Death Lotto’

Date:

John Cena, Awkwafina, and Simu Liu are joining forces to star in the upcoming feature film Grand Death Lotto.

Directed by Paul Feig for Prime Video, this will be an exciting opportunity to watch three of our favorite actors together on screen!

John Cena, Awkwafina, and Simu Liu have been tapped to star in the Prime Video action-comedy “Grand Death Lotto,” with Paul Feig as producer and director. The screenplay is crafted by Rob Yescombe (“Outside the Wire”).

Set in a not-so-distant future, “Grand Death Lotto” offers the exciting opportunity to compete in “the Grand Lottery,” created to generate much-needed funds for economically struggling California. But, as the film’s synopsis reveals, there’s a catch: “Kill the winner before sundown, and you can legally claim their prize.”

The logline subsequently states: “New LA transplant Katie (Awkwafina) accidentally finds herself with the winning ticket and must join forces with amateur jackpot protector Noel (Cena) to make it to sundown to claim her multi-billion dollar prize, all while dealing with Noel’s protection rival Louis Lewis (Liu), who also wants to get her to sundown to claim his rich protection commission.”

“I love action comedy and extreme physical comedy, and this movie has both in abundance, as well as a boatload of heart and hilarity,” Feig proclaimed, revealing the upcoming movie set to begin shooting next week. “This lottery will make us all champions!”

The leading trio of this comedy is well-versed in the genre, as they have reunited for “Grand Theft Lotto” after appearing in Marvel’s 2021 release, “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” with Awkwafina and Liu. Cena is no stranger, having become a DC star by spearheading HBO Max’s hit series “Peacemaker.”

Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum of the renowned production house Roth/Kirschenbaum Films join forces with Laura Fischer and Paul Feig from Feigco Entertainment to produce Amazon Studios’ latest film. Furthermore, Cena, Zack Roth, and Rob Yescombe have been appointed executive producers on the project.

“Grand Death Lotto’ is the kind of original idea audiences have been craving, and there’s no one better than the endlessly talented Paul Feig to steer the ship,” as declared by Jennifer Salke, the director of Amazon and MGM Studios.“We can’t wait to watch John Cena, Awkwafina, and Simu Liu bring this fun, action-packed script to life for our Prime Video customers worldwide.

DGA-winning and Emmy-nominated filmmaker, writer, producer, and author Feig recently debuted his film “The School for Good and Evil” at the top of Netflix’s list. Paul Feig’s films have earned an impressive total of over one billion dollars worldwide, such as box-office successes “Bridesmaids,” “Last Christmas,” “The Heat,” and the recent favorite” Ghostbusters.” Notably, he will produce and direct a sequel to his movie ‘A Simple Favor’ with Lionsgate and Amazon Studios. Furthermore, grand projects like ‘Grand Theft Lotto’ are already in development under his guidance.

Not long after the release of his new film, Cena will be hitting the big screen again in a string of upcoming projects, from Fast X, part of the fast and furious franchise, to Argylle, an espionage drama headed by Matthew Vaughn, as well as Vacation Friends 2. Joining forces with Zac Efron, John Cena will feature in Prime Video’s upcoming movie “Ricky Stanicky,” directed by Peter Farrelly.

Audiences won’t want to miss Awkwafina making her debut in Universal’s “Renfield,” alongside Nicolas Cage, and Disney’s live-action remake of the beloved classic “The Little Mermaid” later this year. She was recently cast to star alongside Sandra Oh in Hulu’s much anticipated “Untitled Sister Comedy Project” and the third season of Comedy Central’s hit series “Nora from Queens.”

Liu is making her way to the big screen in Warner Bros.’s upcoming feature “Barbie,” directed by acclaimed director Greta Gerwig. WME, Intenta Media, and JSSK proudly represent Cena in this cinematic production. UTA, Artists First, Schreck Rose & Kovert Creative proudly represent the talented Awkwafina.

Representing both Liu and Feig, CAA works in tandem with Authentic Talent & Literary Management for Liu and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern for Feig.

A3 Artists Agency and Curtis Brown represent Yescombe.
