Kardashian Apps Reach 1 Million Subscriptions in ONE WEEK!

Date:

The Kardashian Apps are on fire and over 1 million subscriptions have been added in a week. But how long will they last?

The reality stars are trying to build a paying subscription audience. Last month, the Kardashian sisters launched a set of subscription-based lifestyle apps. The Kardashian Klan released four apps. One each for Kim Kardashian West, Khloe Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner (Kourtney Kardashian‘s will launch later this year). In a matter of a few hours, the Kardashian apps were the most downloaded free app in the United States for two straight days with Kylie Jenner bringing in the most downloads per minute.

The Kardashian sisters ability to tap into a market and make millions is undeniable. But, this is a major move into a terrority to that nobody has even considered before. The reality stars are asking for fans to pay a monthly fee to watch, read and see exclusive information about their favorite Kardashian.

“We’ve been living in a world where there’s been one pure-play big bundle, and now we’re going to find out over the next several years how big the marketplace is for niche subscriptions,” says BTIG analyst Rich Greenfield. “In the mobile world, there’s a way for content creators to have a direct connection with fans without the gatekeepers that have historically gotten in the way.” [THR]

Former ABC chairman Lloyd Braun is the creative genius behind the apps through his Whalerock Industries TV production and digital media company. Whalerock plans on creating a dozen of these apps over the next year including one with Howard Stern, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

The Kardashian apps start off as free but each charge a $3 a month to subscribe to exclusive content: Kylie, 18 has a radio station, Kim Kardashian, 34, has makeup tutorials, Khloe 31, hosts a web-series. Accompanying websites tease the free content with the hopes of having people like you and me to input our credit card for more exclusive video content

The biggest challenge for the Kardashian Klan is to keep subscriptions up. Two weeks after launch, Kylie’s app has fallen out of the top 100 on the App Store’s list of most downloaded free apps. But Whalerock insists that early performance is a good sign and exceeding expectations.

Will we soon see celebrity driven apps? Such as acting tips from Leonardo DiCaprio? Or, wardrobe tips from Tyler Perry? Maybe, if these new apps help make the Kardashians richer than they already are, get ready to pay $3 a month just to follow your favorite celebrity on Twitter.

What do you think? Are you going to purchase the new Kardashian app? Do you have a favorite Kardashian worth paying $3 a month to see exclusive info? Share with us your thoughts in the comments below!
