Georgia-Filmed Movies Continue to Dominate the Box Office

Dwayne Johnson’s Georgia-filmed ‘Rampage’ dominates the box-office.

The movie had a $34.5 million box-office debut beating Paramount’s hit horror film ‘A Quiet Place’ for the top spot on this weekend’s box office charts.  The reviews were mixed for Dwayne Johnson’s ‘Rampage’ with a 51% Rotten Tomatoes score. But audiences who went to see the movie on Friday enjoyed it, giving it an A- CinemaScore. ‘Rampage’ had a budget of $120 million and earned $148.6 million worldwide with China as the top global market for the movie with a $55 million launch.

Rampage is directed by Brad Peyton and stars Dwayne Johnson.  When three different animals become infected with a dangerous pathogen, a primatologist and a geneticist team up to stop them from destroying Chicago. Rampage is based on a 1986 arcade game where players control one of three giant monsters trying to rack up points by leveling cities while avoiding being shot at by tanks and helicopters.

Meanwhile, ‘A Quiet Place’ earned $33 million against a $17 million budget pushing the total of the John Krasinski movie to $50 million.

In third place came ‘Truth or Dare,’ which made $19 million in its opening weekend. The film received a weak B- CinemaScore and a 15% Rotten Tomatoes score. That said, it is still a success since the movie had a $3.5 million production budget and had also beaten analysts projects of $12 to 15 million debut.

Steven Spielberg’s film ‘Ready Player One’ earned $11 million in its third weekend. Steven Spielberg’s film grossed $33 million overseas this weekend, which should push it cross $500 million by next week.

Universal’s comedy ‘Blockers,’ which also filmed in Georgia, earned $10.2 million this weekend, giving the movie $37 million in total. The film centers on three parents who discover their daughters’ pact to lose their virginity at prom and launch a covert one-night operation to stop the teens from sealing the deal. The movie stars Leslie Mann and John Cena.

This news comes after the worldwide success of the Georgia-filmed Marvel movie Black PantherBlack Panther, which filmed partly in Tyler Perry Studios, has earned over $670 million at the box office beating Titanic.
