The Brothers Grimsby flops in the box office.
Following The Brothers Grimsby bomb in the box office, Sacha Baron Cohen may want to rethink his future in Hollywood.
The British actor’s latest movie, The Brothers Grimsby flopped in the box office with a $3.1 million debut. According to Box Office Mojo, that is on the list for the worst box office openings in history. It’s also Baron Cohen’s worst movie opening in his acting career – the first weekend earnings is just a fraction of the money that his other R-Rated movies have made.
What probably didn’t help the movie was the bad movie reviews from critics. Currently, the movie has a 38 percent “rotten” on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie’s consensus is that “The Brothers Grimsby showers viewers with a steady stream of Sacha Baron Cohen’s edgy humor, but too many gags hit the wrong side of the line between audacious and desperate.”
And as many of the critics pointed out in their reviews, Sacha Baron Cohen has lost his touch as a comedian but, it is begs the question – is Baron Cohen concentrating on becoming an actor rather than a comedian? Cohen played in a big role in the 2012 musical/drama Les Miserables. He also appears in Disney’s Alice Through the Looking Glass, which debuts in May. Maybe he’s focusing his talents on becoming a better actor instead of working on his comedic chops.
