Oprah Winfrey will executive produce the series and play Mavis McCready, the sister of Lady Mae Greenleaf, a friend of the pastor's wife.
The Book of Negroes' Clement Virgo is set to direct the pilot in Atlanta, Georgia.
Oprah Winfrey recently appeared in Ava DuVernay's Selma and is also set to recur in DuVernay's upcoming OWN drama Queen Sugar. Oprah Winfrey's past credits also include The Butler and The Color Purple, where she earned her first and only Oscar nomination.
