Sameul L. Jackson Reveals What Quentin Tarantino Did To Keep ‘The Hateful Eight’ Actors in Character

Date:

Samuel L. Jackson says Quentin Tarantino shot ‘The Hateful Eight‘ on a refrigerated set.

Quentin Tarantino may be exploring the Western genre, but it sounds like his latest film, ‘The Hateful Eight’, will be a very different than any other Western movie you probably have ever seen.

‘The Hateful Eight’ takes place a few years after the Civil War and centers around a group of traveling strangers who are forced to take refuge together at a bar when a snowstorm hits the Wyoming countryside.

The Hateful EIghtSamuel L. Jackson, was recently asked what it was like shooting the movie with Quentin Tarantino and it sounds pretty amazing. He said the cast really bonded over the course of filming, and they’re still texting and referring to themselves as “The Haters”

But, it was not all peaches and tea parties for the cast and crew of ‘The Hateful Eight’.

All of us are so anxious to see this movie because, every day, the work was incredible. It was taxing, in a very interesting way, because we were in the snow, at first, and then we get inside this room. Quentin shot on a refrigerated set, and it was 30 degrees, every day, in there. We were miserable in the environment. You could see our breath, but the stuff that we were doing was amazing. We would finish doing a scene and look at each other and just grin like, “This is incredible.” And we may be blowing smoke up our own asses, but I hope it’s as good as we felt like it was when we were doing it. Most movie directors would simply add CGI to make sets look cold. But, not Quentin Tarantino. He likes to keep it real. In fact, the set temperature was set at 30-degrees to keep the actors in character even while on break. If you watch the movie and someone is shivering, they are probably not acting.

The Hateful Eight Movie‘The Hateful Eight’ will be released later this year and features Kurt Russell as John Ruth, Samuel L. Jackson as Major Marquis Warren, Jennifer Jason Leigh as Daisy Domergue, Michael Madsen as Joe Gage, Tim Roth as Oswaldo Mobray, Walton Goggins as Chris Mannix, Bruce Dern as General Sanford Smithers, and Demian Bichir as Bob.
