Do you drink black coffee? Well, you are probably a psychopath.
So…the next time you are at work and you see your co-worker drinking coffee remember the guy that likes his coffee black is probably a psychopath, according to this study.
A new study, published in the journal Appetite, reveals people who enjoy black coffee also exhibit psychopathic tendencies. Researchers at Inssbruck University in Austria surveyed 500 men and women, reports The Independent.
First the group were shown a list of food and drink items that were categorized as bitter, sweet, salty and sour, then they rated the foods, which included bacon, lemons, candy and coffee on a six point scale.
Then, participants were asked to fill out four personality questionnaires which measured their aggression levels and assessed their personality traits of Machiavellianism, psychopathy and narcissism. They also answered questions, relating to the “Big 5” personality traits of oppenness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreebleness and neuroticism. At the end of the experiment, they completed the “Comprehensive Assessment of Sadistic Tendencies.”
The results of the study showed bitter taste preference to be “positively associated with malevolent personality traits, with the most robust relation to everyday sadism and psychopathy.” That’s pretty exciting news for you black coffee-drinkers out there.
You know what’s also on the list of example of bitter tastes besides coffee that makes you a psychopath? Tonic water, celery and beer.
