“Netflix Party” Google Chrome Extension allows friends to start watch-parties from home.
Developers just made watching Netflix with your friend even easier with an unofficial “Netflix Party” Google Chrome extension.
The Google Chrome extension, which has been available for a while now, is described as an add-on that “synchronizes video playback and adds a group chat to your favorite Netflix shows,” and is going viral as health officials call for social distancing due to the coronavirus.
All a user needs to do is install the free Google Chrome-exclusive extension for the Chrome browser. Then, play a TV show or movie on Netflix, launch the extension and send the URL to individuals anywhere in the world. The Netflix users who click on the link will automatically be redirected to the streaming service’s website, allowing people to access the link to watch the episode or movie at the same time and talk using the real-time sidebar chat.
In other related entertainment news, AMC theaters will close all their theaters for the next 6 to 12 weeks.
AMC Theaters, the largest theater chain in America, announced it would close 630 locations starting March 17 for at least 6 to 12 weeks due to concerns surrounding the coronavirus outbreak. AMC CEO and President Adam Aron will comply with local, state, and federal mandates to ensure the public health of staff and moviegoers.
“We are ever so disappointed for our moviegoing guests and our employee teams that the new CDC guidelines that Americans should not gather in groups larger than 10 people make it impossible to open our theatres. Still, the health and wellbeing of AMC guests and employees, and of all Americans, takes precedence above all else. We will continue to monitor this situation very closely and look forward to the day we can again delight moviegoers nationwide by reopening AMC movie theatres in accordance with guidance from the CDC and local health authorities.”
