When it comes to making movies, sometimes studio executives believe the best way to do it is by throwing millions of dollars in hopes of a blockbuster hit.
Sometimes it works. Here is a list of the 5 most expensive movies ever made.
#5. Avatar – $237 million
James Cameron’s Avatar is ranked as the fifth most expensive movie ever made. According to reports, it cost studios $237 million dollars to produce the movie. If you have lived under a rock for the past 5 years, Avatar centers on a paraplegic Marine who is  dispatched to the moon Pandora on a unique mission becomes torn between following his orders and protecting the world he feels is his home.
#4. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince – $250 million
The Harry Potter Series is a huge franchise series for Warner Bros. It helped catapult Daniel Radcliffe’s career to immediate stardom. But, in 2009, it costs Warner Bros. $250 million to make it.  Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince centers on Harry Potter as he begins his sixth year at Hogwarts, he discovers an old book marked as “the property of the Half-Blood Prince” and begins to learn more about Lord Voldemort’s dark past.
#3. Spider-Man 3 – $258 million
Spider Man 3 was supposed to be the biggest releases for the Spider-Man 3 franchise. It was the most expensive Spider-Man ever made and cost studios $258 million to make. Spider-Man 3 centered on a  strange black entity from another world bonds with Peter Parker and causes inner turmoil as he contends with new villains, temptations, and revenge.
#2. Tangled – $260 million
Tangled is one of the biggest Disney movies to be released since ‘The Lion King‘. But, it costs Disney $260 million dollars to make the animated movie come to life. Tangled centered on  the magical story of Rapunzel as she has spent her entire life in a tower, but now that a runaway thief has stumbled upon her, she is about to discover the world for the first time, and who she really is.
#1 Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End
Johnny Depp’s critically acclaimed franchise series ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’. It costs Walt Disney nearly $300 million dollars to make the movie happen. But, in a surprising twist, it would have cost Disney even more money if they had Orlando Bloom in the feature film.
