NBCUniversal and the American Black Film Festival are seeking participants for the 2013.

The American Black Film Festival is a film festival that focuses on works by Black members of the film industry.

It has been called “the nation’s most prominent film festival.” The festival is held annually and features full-length narratives, short films, mobile entertainment (defined by the official website  as “all short form content including experimental films, music videos and webisodes”), and documentaries, all by and/or featuring Black writers, directors, actors, and actresses (Wiki).

NBCUniversal and the American Black Film Festival are seeking participants for the 2013 Star Project Acting Competition, in which “aspiring actors, who are serious about their craft, will once again have an opportunity of a lifetime to breakthrough and get discovered. Launched in 2009 as part of the American Black Film Festival (ABFF), the goal of the Star Project is to provide a platform to spotlight talented, yet undiscovered actors, while supporting their career advancement.” Andrew Asare, publicist.

The American Black Film Festival is held annually in Miami Beach.

How to audition:

Seeking—African-American Actors: males and females, 18-66+.

Submit two videotaped monologues (one of your choosing and one selected by NBCUniversal & ABFF) by Mar. 15 viawww.abff.com. Click on “Enter a Talent Competition,” then click on “The Star Project” to access the submission form. Round-trip coach-class airfare, festival passes, and a live on-site audition for an NBC talent executive and/or other qualified judge will be provided for six first-round finalists.

One grand-prize winner (announced at the festival) will have the opportunity to meet with casting directors for film and TV at NBCUniversal in L.A., and will be granted a walk-on role on the NBC daytime drama, “Days of our Lives.”

  • Note: No hotel accommodations provided; first-round finalists are responsible for their own lodging in Miami.
  • Competition is open through Mar. 15. Festival runs June 19-23 in Miami, FL.
