The Hunger Games Mockingjay Banned
The new Hunger Games movie has been banned from several movie theaters in Thailand after protestors started using the movie’s hand gesture as an anti-authority symbol.
According to reports, the three-fingered salute featured in the Jennifer Lawrence series has been adopted by pro-democracy activists in the country who are protesting against the government which was installed following the military coup in May 2014.
Protesters have organized a mass demonstration outside a movie theater in Bangkok to mark the opening of the latest movie, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, on Thursday, November 20th and now one of the largest movie theater chains has cancelled all screenings of the movie.
This news comes after five students were arrested after using the hand gesture during a speech during the country’s new leader Prayuth Chan-ocha.
Government officials have warned anyone caught using The Hunger Games symbol will face arrest.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part is the latest movie in The Hunger Games franchise. Mockingjay Part 1 was directed by Francis Lawrence with a screenplay written by Peter Craig and Danny Strong. It is the first of two movies based on the novel, Mockingjay written by Suzanne Collins.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 features Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Julianne Moore, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jeffrey Wright, Stanley Tucci and Donald Sutherland. It is the sequel to The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and will be followed by the concluding entry, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2.
